Biography 2006 [2]

Nikolai Shapiro received an M.Sc. (1991) in physics from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in Russia and a Ph.D. (1996) in geophysics from Joseph Fourier University in Grenoble, France. In 1997–2000, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher and as an assistant professor at the Mexican National Autonomous University, Mexico City. In 2000–2005, Shapiro was a research associate at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He is now a director of research at the National Council for Scientific Research in France, associated with the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris. Shapiro’s research interests include theoretical, computational, and observational seismology.
