The SEG Wiki Spanish translation project and the SEG Wiki staff currently seek volunteers to upload and copy edit the translated figures in Robert Sheriff's Encyclopedic Dictionary, 4th edition. Volunteers will work with a team leader and use his or her knowledge of geophysics and Spanish to upload figures to the SEG Wiki.

Background
In February 2017, a group of volunteers started translating Robert Sheriff's Encyclopedic Dictionary into Spanish. As of 16 May 2019, the entire book has been completed! However, the figures and tables associated with the translated terms must now be uploaded and added to the SEG Wiki. This volunteer position will support the team responsible for adding the translated figures to the SEG Wiki.

Volunteer responsibilities
- With guidance and support from the project lead and the SEG publications outreach manager, volunteers will contribute to the wiki by uploading translated figures and tables from Sheriff's Dictionary to the SEG Wiki
- Ensure translation is clear, concise, and accurate; provides documentation summaries during the translation process
- Follows deadlines set by the project lead
- Communicates clearly and consistently with project lead and other team members
- Watch this video for an overview of the translation process (Note: SEG will provide access to all necessary materials upon acceptance)
NOTE: Access to the SEG Wiki and this project requires the internet and registration with SEG (registration is free)
Qualifications
- Fluent in Spanish and English
- Self-motivated, possess good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Some knowledge of applied geophysics desirable
- Prior Wikipedia or other online encyclopedia experience a plus
- Action oriented - pursues work with energy; perseveres especially in the face of resistance or setbacks
- Teamwork - encourages collaboration by fostering open dialogue; defines success in terms of the whole team; finds common ground and solves problems for the good of all areas of SEG; represents his/her own interests while exercising fairness to others; shares successes
- Quality of work - produces high-quality work with few errors

- SEG Wiki staff will hold webinars and provide in-person training as needed. Volunteers will develop skills working with Mediawiki, building pages with wikitext, and gaining a better understanding of the importance and process of citing scientific sources in launching these pages.

- Recommendations gladly provided to great volunteers (e.g., LinkedIn recommendations). You will also have the opportunity to network with other volunteers, SEG members, and the Wiki Committee.

The SEG Wiki is publicly accessible and editable to all users registered with SEG (registration is free). The contents of the wiki are dedicated to applied geophysics and the people and technology that support it. The wiki is maintained by the SEG Wiki Committee, volunteers, and readers from all over the world.
The goal of the SEG Wiki is: to expand the world’s knowledge of applied geophysics, to provide further details of ("layer") the science itself, and to engage emerging professionals in the field. Robert E. Sheriff's Encyclopedic Dictionary of Applied Geophysics, fourth edition and Oz Yilmaz's Seismic Data Analysis seeded the SEG Wiki with its initial content.
