James D. Robertson is a geophysicist noted for his industrial leadership and service to the geophysical community through SEG and the Dallas Geophysical Society. He served as the 1993-1994 SEG President.
Biography for SEG President Elect Candidacy 
James D. Robertson, candidate for President-Elect, joined SEG in 1973. He has previously served the Society as First Vice-President of the 1991-92 SEG Executive Committee and as Technical Program Chairman of the 1989 SEG Annual Meeting. He was a member of the Editorial Board of The Leading Edge (1986-90) and was the Fall 1988 SEG Distinguished Lecturer. He has been a?instructor in the Continuing Education Program (1984-87) and Chairman of the Public Affairs Committee (1983-85). He received SEG's Outstanding Presentation Award in 1980 and again in 1984 for papers presented at SEG Annual Meetings and SEG?s Outstanding Paper in Geophysics Award in 1986. He is a past president and honorary member of the Dallas Geophysical Society.
Jamie received a BSE degree in civil and geological engineering from Princeton University (1970) and a PhD in geophysics from the University of Wisconsin (1975). He then joined ARCO where he has held various technical and management positions including deputy manager of geophysical research, geophysical manager of the offshore Gulf of Mexico exploration group, exploration staff manager, and vicepresident of geoscience operations. He is currently vice-president, exploration technology, of ARCO'S international exploration and production division.
In addition to SEG and the Dallas Geophysical Society, Robertson is a member of AAPG, EAEG, AGU, and SPE. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Geological Institute Foundation, the Advisory Council of the Department of Geology and Geophysics of Princeton University, the Visiting Committee of the Department of Geophysics of the Colorado School of Mines, and the Alumni Board of the Department of Geology and Geophysics of the University of Wisconsin.
