Albena A. Mateeva and Andrey Bakulin received the 2008 Best Paper Presented at the Annual Meeting award for their paper Estimating interval shear-wave splitting from multicomponent virtual shear checkshots.
Albena Mateeva joined Shell three years ago after earning an M.Sc. in physics from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria, and a Ph.D. in geophysics from Colorado School of Mines (Center for Wave Phenomena). She is now working on virtual-source technology. Her research interests include inversion theory, signal processing, multiple scattering, and attenuation estimation.
