UERJ Geophysical Society Student Chaptere
The State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) Geophysical Society Student Chapter was founded on January 30, 2015 by students from the geology course at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, whose first president was Gabriela Salomão. The chapter is located in southwest Brazil in the city of Rio de Janeiro, right next to the beautiful Maracanã Stadium.
The role of the chapter is to provide geology, geophysics and other geoscience students with the knowledge necessary to enter the market after their academic life. In order to achieve its goals, the UERJ Geophysical Society promotes lectures with specialized professionals, workshops, short courses, technical visits, offer material for research and studies, promotes chats with employees of large companies and also strengthens ties between university and company. All this so the students can know their space in the market and also for companies to know the future professionals that will be available for them.
The main events organized by the Student Chapter are its summer school, which takes place between February and March; its applied geophysics workshop that happens between October and November; and in addition to these events, the chapter has its magazine, which has now more than five editions published.
The chapter had on its head four presidents already, between 2015 and 2016 Gabriela Salomão occupied the position; in the years 2016 and 2017, Vinicius Riguete took office; in the following two years (2018 and 2019) Lucas Monteiro was the one in the lead. Currently, since January of 2020, the president is Luiz Felipe Moraes.
Together with Luiz Felipe, occupying the official positions are Indrid Araújo as vice president; Fabiane Santana as treasurer; and Rodrigo Santos as secretary. For better organization of the chapter there are unofficial positions for midia & marketing, finance and events, where each one is represented by its director, who are, in sequence, Elisa, Rachel Lopes, and Gabriel Gonçalves.
