Steven Lynch received a Bachelor of Science degree (with distinction) in Biophysics from the University of Guelph in 1975. He received a Master of Science degree in Geophysics from the University of British Columbia in 1977, and he obtained his Doctorate from the University of Calgary in 2008 with a combined biophysics/geophysics thesis.
He began his career with Gulf Canada in 1977 where he pioneered several new visualization techniques. He has managed seismic processing centers and served as the manager of Research and Development for DigiRule (1996–2001), Divestco (2001–2010) and PhotoSat (2010–2016). Early in his career he developed techniques for refraction statics modelling, structural and stratigraphic modelling, migration, and AVO. For the past 15 years, he has focused his research on improving seismic visualization techniques and now works full-time pioneering the field of Perceptive Seismic Interpretation.
He is a member of the SEG, CSEG, and EAGE and is a professional geoscientist in the province of Alberta.
