Sociedad Geofísica de la Universidad Industrial de Santander
The Student Chapter of the Industrial University of Santander (SEG UIS CHAPTER) of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists is an active Student Chapter at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), Bucaramanga, Colombia. This chapter began its activities around the year 2010. The SEG UIS CHAPTER involves Geology students from the School of Geology at UIS. Additionally, there are numerous activities that connect industry professionals and businesses around Bucaramanga to enhance Geophysics in our region. The SEG UIS Chapter founded its own Young Researcher Group in Geophysics: the Research Seedbed in Applied and Computational Geophysics (SIGAC).

Activities
Short Courses and talks
In the year 2023, the SEG UIS Student Chapter focused its special attention on topics related to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and the geophysical applications to address associated challenges. This is because we were selected for the SEG EVOLVE Student Program. During this period, we organized Short Courses related to this theme, engaging both students working on the topic and experts in the field. Additionally, we conducted talks and brief courses on Seismic Interpretation, Seismic Processing, Stratigraphy, and other topics within the realm of Geophysics. The primary objective of these courses is to enhance knowledge in Geophysics at UIS.
Challenge Bowl
The SEG UIS Student Chapter participated in the Challenge Bowl Competition. A team consisting of two master's students applied their knowledge in geophysics, geology, and SEG to compete with other student chapters.

SEG EVOLVE
The SEG UIS CHAPTER was selected to participate in the SEG EVOLVE program, a perfect opportunity to gain professional experience by developing a project associated with Carbon Capture and Storage in the Illinois Basin.
Field Practices
The Student Chapter organized some short practices to get involved with geophysical methods. We conducted practices with gravimetry and electromagnetic methods. We also participated as organizers in the Third Week of Geophysics at UIS, whose event concluded with a one-day field trip where we had the opportunity to interact with geophysical methods such as refraction seismic, downhole, Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES), and many others.

Volunteer for SEG
4th SEG Latin American Student Conference
In 2023, the chapter volunteered as part of the organizing team for the 4th SEG Latin American Virtual Student Conference, assisting in various activities such as graphic design for event publicity, planning the event schedule, and also presenting during the event.

Highlights
SIGAC
SIGAC is the Youngs Researchers Group in Geophysics at UIS. SIGAC began your activities like a small students group. Now SIGAC ties many Professionals, Geologists, and Geophysicists with our undergraduate students to enrich your knowledge and skills in seismic interpretation, seismic processing, Petroleum Geology, Sedimentology, Geoelectric, and many topics related to Geophysics.

Summit Level
In 2014 SEG UIS CHAPTER awarded Summit Level from the Society of Exploration Geophysicists 2014 Summit level Student Chapters
