General Information

The mission of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists student chapter at Rutgers University-Newark is to promote interest in geophysics and to enhance collaboration and knowledge amongst those interested in the geophysical sciences. We accomplish these goals by holding regular meetings, organizing invited speaker series, and subsidizing members travel to meetings among other stimulating activities.

Programs & Leadership

Chapter president Joaquin Cambeiro was selected to participate in the SEG/Chevron Student Leadership Symposium (SLS) in August 2025.

Greg Walker (Newmont Exploration) visiting Rutgers University–Newark to discuss industry applications of near-surface geophysics.

Professional Service & Volunteering

  • Nicolette Fillippone served on the Near-Surface Geophysics Career Panel at IMAGE 2025.
  • Chris Terra organized and moderated two SEG near-surface webinars in 2025, including SEG Pub Club and the Open Software Series featuring Dr. Craig Warren (gprMax).
  • Joaquin Cambeiro volunteered at the Applied Science Education Program (ASEP) during IMAGE 2025.

Outreach & Applied Geophysics

  • Earth Day outreach highlighting near-surface geophysics applications.
  • GPR investigations for sinkhole assessment and AFFF site characterization.
  • Hands-on seismic and GPR workshop for local high school students.
