Biography 1965 
Richard L. Caldwell received a B.S. degree in 1939 and an M.S. degree in 1941, both in Physics, from Louisiana State Unversity. From 1941 until 1945 he worked as a Physicist for the Naval Ordnance Laboratory, Washington D.C. In February, 1946, he resumed his graduate studies in physics at the University of Missouri and did his doctoral research in nuclear physics at the Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, Illinios, where he held an Atomic Energy Commission Fellowship. He received his Ph.D. degree in Physics in June, 1949. In August, 1949, he joined Socony Mobil Oil Company, Inc. (formerly Magnolia Petroleum Company), Field Research Laboratory in Dallas, Texas, where he is presently Section Supervisor in charge of the Nuclear Physics and Well Logging Research Section. He has published numerous papers in the fields of nuclear physics, geophysics, petroleum technology, and nuclear medicine, and holds nine U.S. patents in the field of nuclear well logging.
