Maitri Erwin
Education
Maitri Erwin graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1998 with a BS degree in geology, and from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 2003 with a MS degree in structural geology and an interdisciplinary MS degree in computational sciences and geophysics.
Professional Career
Since 2003, Maitri has worked in various capacities in energy exploration and technology development. These include subsurface workflow modernization, seismic interpretation and inversion, reservoir characterization, prospect maturation, exploration bid rounds, drilling recommendations, teams leadership, and business development.
Maitri started her career in 2003 at Shell Exploration and Production Company in New Orleans, Louisiana as a field development geophysicist. Between 2011 and 2020, Maitri was a geophysicist and new ventures exploration leader at CNOOC International. She is now an Energy Industry Advisor at Microsoft Industry & Partner Sales, where she leads technical sales of Cloud and AI solutions to key energy and resources clients.
Passionate about literacy, interdisciplinary science education, and empowering women in science and technology leadership, Maitri is a board member of Project Gutenberg, member of the University Wisconsin College of Letters and Science Board, former First Vice President of the Geophysical Society of Houston, and an emeritus member of the University of Wisconsin Department of Geoscience Board of Visitors.
SEG Contributions
Maitri is a member of the SEG Honorary & Distinguished Lecturer Committee and co-chair of the IMAGE Digitalization Pavilion (2024). She is a founding member of the SEG Women's Network Committee (2011) and served as its Finance Chair (2013-15) and Chair (2015-17). Maitri was a member of the SEG Foundation board (2019-2020) and represented the Geophysical Society of Houston on the SEG Council (2017-19).
