George Cumming

George Leslie Cumming (1935-2000) received his M. A. from the University of Saskatchewan in 1953 and his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 1955. Dr. Cumming was a professor of Physics at the university of Alberta until his retirement in 1994. Dr. Cumming was a well-known geophysicist who published several monographs on the geophysical structure of Western Canada. [1]
The G. L. Cumming Memorial Graduate Scholarship was established at the University of Alberta in his honor.[2]
SEG Best Paper in Geophysics Award 1968
R. M. Clowes, E. R. Kanasewich, and G. L. Cumming received the 1968 SEG Best Paper in Geophysics Award for their paper Deep crustal seismic reflections at near-vertical incidence [3]
Biography 1968[4]
G. L. Cumming obtained his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Saskatchewan in 1951 and 1953, respectively. In 1955, he was awarded a Ph.D. degree in geophysics from the University of Toronto. He worked in the field of seismic exploration with Canadian Gulf Oil Company (later British American Oil Company) from 1955 to 1959. At the time, he moved to the Physics Department of the University of Alberta, where he now holds the position of Associate Professor. Dr. Cumming is a member of SEG, AGU, SSA, and GAC.
