Don Lawton received a PhD (1979) in applied geophysics from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He joined the department of geology and geophysics at the University of Calgary in 1979. From 1976 to 1979 he worked for Amoco in the mineral exploration division. He is a director of the Foothills Research Project (FRP) and an associate director of CREWES. He is past editor of the Canadian Journal of Exploration Geophysics, and he was Second Vice-President of the CSEG in 1994. He received a CSEG Meritorious Service Award in 1995. His received a CSEG Meritorious Service Award in 1995. His research interests include acquisition, processing, and interpretation of multicomponent seismic data, seismic anisotropy, seismic modeling, and integrated geophysical and geological studies in the Rocky Mountain Foothills and other compressional belts. He is a member of SEG, CSEG, EAGE, ASEG, and CGU.
