1. A sensor, the part of an acquisition system which senses the information signal, such as a geophone or hydrophone (q.v.). 2. As used in IP surveys, often a sensitive, filterable ac or dc voltmeter with SP buckout controls. Generally a frequency-domain receiver is ac coupled and a time-domain voltmeter is dc coupled.
