Dictionary:Exploding wire

A modification of a sparker (q.v.) for use in fresh water where the conductivity of the water between the sparker electrodes is not sufficient to initiate a spark. A thin wire connects the electrodes; the sparker discharge vaporizes the wire to initiate vaporizing the water.
