{{#category_index:C|Compton scattering}} (k∂m’ t∂n) The principal interaction mechanism for gamma photons in the 0.4 to 3.0 MeV range for media in the intermediate atomic number range. The incident photon changes direction and is available for repeated scattering, so that the probability of total dissipation increases with the volume of the scatterer. Named for Arthur Holly Compton (1892–1962), American physicist.
