(er’ ē hī skan’ ∂n ī sos’ t∂ sē). A modification of the Airy isostatic hypothesis. Usually assumes that compensation is complete and local, that the Earth’s crustal density is 2.67 g/cm3, and that the density of the layer under the crust is 0.6 g/cm3 higher than that of the crust.
