Aiman Bakhorji is a Chief Geophysicist working for the Exploration Technical Service Department of Saudi Aramco in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He has been working for Saudi Aramco for the past 21 years. He received his PhD in Rock Physics/Geophysics from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, in 2009. He is the author and co-author of several technical papers in journals and international conferences.

Aiman is also very active in the mentoring and teaching of young professionals. This is highlighted by his role teaching short courses at the Saudi Aramco Upstream Development Center and at King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), a role very close to his heart. He has overseen the development of up-and-coming Saudi Aramco employees both in their work-related projects and their advanced degree research.

In addition to his local activities, Aiman is also very visible internationally. He also has served as a Technical Committee member for several international conferences such as those of EAGE, SEG, and SPE.

Aiman’s primary interests are in rock properties research, primarily for geophysical purposes. Currently, his research focus is on seismic lithology and fluid identification, reservoir characterization, and quantitative seismic interpretation. He has conducted extensive laboratory experiments that focus primarily on understanding rock physics and mechanics and how they influence geophysical observations in carbonate rock.
