Vertical seismic profiling data often provide more reliable correlation of well control to seismic data than synthetic seismograms derived from sonic logs. There are two reasons for this. First, the VSP data have a signal bandwidth closer to the seismic data than the sonic logs. More importantly, VSP data usually are not as sensitive to borehole conditions such as washouts.
