Biography 2013[1]
Valéria Cristina F. Barbosa received a B.S. (1986) in geology from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and an M.S. (1991) and Ph.D. (1998) in geophysics from the Federal University of Pará. From 1987 to 1989, she worked as a geologist at Geopetro Consult Geofísica Ltda. From 1998 to 2006, she worked as a scientific researcher at the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing, Brazil. Currently she is working as a research geophysicist at the National Observatory, Brazil. In 2002 she received an honorable mention for Best Paper in GEOPHYSICS and in 2004 was acknowledged as an outstanding GEOPHYSICS reviewer. Since 2005 she has been an associate editor for the GEOPHYSICS Magnetic Exploration Methods section. Her current research interests include inverse problems, optimization, and interpretation of potential field data. She is a member of SEG, EAGE, AGU, and the Brazilian Geophysical Society.

Valéria Cristina Ferreira Barbosa graduated (1986) in geology from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. She received an M. S. (1991) and Ph.D. (1998) in geophysics from the Federal University of Pará, Brazil. From 1987 to 1989, she worked as a geologist at Geopetro Consult. e Geofisica Ltda. She joined the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing in Brazil in 1998 as a scientific researcher. Since 2003, Barbosa has taught in the geophysics graduate school at the National Observatory in Rio de Janeiro. She received an Honorable Mention for Best Paper in GEOPHYSICS in 2001. Her research interests are inverse problem theory and interpretation of potential-field data. She is a member of SEG and the Brazillian Geophysical Society.

João B. C. Silva, Walter E. Medeiros, and Valéria C. F. Barbosa received 2001 Honorable Mention (Geophysics) for their paper Potential-field inversion: Choosing the appropriate technique to solve a geologic problem.[3]
