The goal of the SEG Wiki is: expanding the world’s knowledge of geophysics, creating a stronger science, and engaging emerging professionals in the field. Robert E. Sheriff's Encyclopedic Dictionary of Applied Geophysics, fourth edition seeded the SEG Wiki with its initial content. While this information originated in a tried and true print source, all entries in the SEG Wiki can and are encouraged to be modified, updated, and improved by members. We encourage you to read and enhance the SEG Wiki to the best of your knowledge. Personalized support is always available. Add your layer to the science of geophysics today.

New additions

Oz Yilmaz’s renowned text now available

It is here! Oz Yilmaz’s renowned Seismic Data Analysis is now fully available as an open access book. With its launch, SEG’s two best-selling books – Seismic Data Analysis and Sheriff’s Encyclopedia Dictionary of Applied Geophysics – are freely available to read, edit, and grow through your contributions!

Key concepts from SEG books

SEG Wiki has been working closely with Don Herron to create wiki articles based on Don’s 2011 book First Steps in Seismic Interpretation. Don has condensed, expanded, and paraphrased key concepts from his book for the wiki. Entries on interpretation work flows, visual estimation of wavelet phase, and correlation procedures in building a depth migration velocity model are now available. Contact wiki‐at‐seg.org to assist SEG in this project.

TLE tutorials

The SEG is publishing an increasing number of geophysical tutorials. The fifth tutorial, Phase and the Hilbert transform, was recently published in the October 2014 edition of The Leading Edge.

Biographies

Wikithon 2014

The 2nd Annual SEG Wikithon will be held October 26-29 in Denver, CO during the SEG International Exposition and 84th Annual Meeting. Please help us design sessions that meet your needs. New to the SEG Wiki? An experienced wiki editor or geophysicist? Connect with other wiki contributors at the 2014 Wikithon during the SEG Annual Meeting.

Location: Room Deck 708, Colorado Convention Center
Time: 12 – 2pm AND 5 – 6pm October 26-29

We will also host two student-focused sessions at the Student Pavilion on Monday, October 27 from 3-4pm and on Tuesday, October 28 from 12-2pm.

Wiki chat
