We might say that the wavelet-processing step in the overall processing sequence changes a physical seismic wavelet into an artificial interpreter wavelet h. The criterion for choosing a particular form of interpreter wavelet has to do with resolution. Interpreter wavelet h should be as sharp as is possible while remaining consistent with the data. In other words, the interpreter wavelet should have as large a bandwidth as possible.
