In general, the word frequency can be used for either $\omega$ or f, so one often must determine from the context which frequency is meant. Usually, if the word frequency occurs by itself, cyclic frequency in units of hertz is implied. The ${\rm {2}}\pi$ factor in the above formula comes from the fact that there are ${\rm {2}}\pi$ radians (or $360^{\circ }$) in each complete rotation.
