{{#category_index:W|water track}} A mode of reflected sonar energy produced by scattering within the tens of feet below a transducer. When using Doppler-sonar navigation in water deeper than 100 to 300 m, the scattered energy overrides the reflection from the deeper ocean bottom and accuracy drops by about a factor of four compared with ‘‘bottom mode.’’ Water-track positioning is done with respect to the water which may itself be moving, introducing additional systematic error.
