Stanley Jones
Stanley B. Jones (14 January 1922- 19 September 2011) was with Chevron Oil Field Research for 25 years. The SEG awarded recognized Dr. Jones' accomplishments with a Special Commendation in 1983.
For his service to the SEG, Dr. Jones was awarded SEG Life Membership in 1990.

January 14, 1922 - September 19, 2011 Cupertino, CA-Stanley Bennett Jones, 89, died Monday, September 19, 2011 of a hemorrhagic stroke. He leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Jeannette and Grant Heidrich of Woodside, CA and his son, Bradley Jones of Oceanside, CA; five grandchildren-Art and Beau Heidrich plus Brian, Jeff and Erin Jones; his companion of six years, Cecile Stowe; his brother, Bruce Jones; and his sister, Alice Upjohn. His wife of 46 years, Yvonne L Jones predeceased him in 1993.
Stan was born on January 14, 1922 in San Francisco, CA. He grew up in Modesto, CA, attended UC Berkeley where he met Yvonne, was President of the Folk Dancing Club and received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in the field of high energy physics, with special emphasis on cosmic rays.
Stan and Yvonne moved to Whittier, CA in 1950. He worked 35 years for Chevron Oil Field Research Labs doing oil exploration research projects around the world, receiving several patents in oil well drilling. After retirement he worked five years full time for the Society of Exploration Geophysicists as their technical expert and opened oil relations with China.
Stan returned to Northern California in 2003 to live at The Forum in Cupertino. Throughout his life, he enjoyed his grandchildren, hiking, traveling, fishing, golfing, observing nature, singing, dancing, bridge, reading Sherlock Holmes and non-fiction, and his mother's steamed carrot pudding with vanilla sauce.
The Memorial Service will be held October 15, 2011 at 3:00pm at The Chapel, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Menlo Park, CA. Donations in Stan's memory can be sent to Child & Family Institute, 330 Ravenswood Ave, Menlo Park, CA 94025.
