Measuring surface relief by radar from a satellite, where the elevation of the satellite is nearly constant. Measurements of the sea surface reveal undulations of the geoid, which permit mapping marine gravity anomalies. Capable of measuring the sea surface to an accuracy of less than 10 cm depending on the sea-surface roughness.
