Recording of the intensity of the interference pattern that results from the scattering of coherent radiation and a reference beam. Optical holography usually involves photographing the interference from laser light (to achieve a coherent source); subsequent illumination of the photographic plate allows one to ‘‘see’’ the photographed object in three dimensions.
