SEG Best Paper in Geophysics Award 1998

Kurt J. Marfurt, Steven L. Farmer, Rodney Lynn Kirlin, and Michael S. Bahorich received the 1998 SEG Best Paper in Geophysics Award for their paper 3-D seismic attributes using a semblance-based coherency algorithm.[1]

Biography 1998[2]

R. Lynn Kirlin received his BS (1963) an MS (1963), from the University of Wyoming and a PhD (168) from Utah State. His industrial experience includes advanced space communications systems at Martin-Marietta and Boeing from 1963-1966, data communications and computer peripherals at Datel in 1969, and signal and imagine processing applications software at Floating Point Systems, in 1979. He was with the EE Department at the University of Wyoming from 1969 to 1986 prior to joining the ECE Department at the Univesity of Victoria, where he has continued research and contract work in many areas of applications of statistical signal processing, but most concentration has been on seismic and array signal processing, collaborating with Amoco since 1983.
