Richard S. Smith received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Adelaide, South Australia. Further graduate studies were pursued at the University of Toronto. A presentation of his PhD results at the 1988 ASEG/SEG International Conference in Australia received the best paper award (co-authored with G.F. West). He has worked as a research geophysicist at Lamontagne Geophysics, and a postdoctora fellow at Macquarie University. In 1990 he moved to Melbourne where he managed the geophysical data acquisition program for Pasminso, an Australian mining company. He is a member of SEG, ASEG, KEGS, EAEG, and the SEG continuing Education Faculty.
