W. H. Pelton, S. H. Ward, P. G. Hallof, W. R. Sill, and P. H. Nelson received the 1978 SEG Best Paper in Geophysics Award for their paper Mineral discrimination and removal of inductive coupling with multifrequency induced-polarization.[1]

Biography 1978[2]

Philip G. Hallof attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1948 to 1952, received a B.Sc. degree in 1952 and a Ph.D. degree (both in geophysics) in 1957. He accepted employment at McPhar Geophysics Ltd., as a staff geophysicist. He became chief geophysicist in 1959 and from 1963 to 1975 he was president of McPhar. In 1975 he and several geophysicists formed Phoenix Geophysics Ltd.; he has been president since it began operations. He has been a Member of SEG since 1955 and has served as Chairman of the Society's Mining Committee.
