Peter Pangman a native of Montreal, Canada, received a Bachelor of Science in engineering from Queen's University in Ontario, Canada. He began his professional career in 1973 as a geophysical interpreter with Amoco in Calgary. He steadily rose through the ranks at Amoco to become its manager of geophysics in 1993. He served in that position for four years before leaving Amoco to become Oxy's chief geophysicist. In both of these positions, Pangman was responsible for maintaining his company's geophysical capability at a state-of-the-art level in all parts of the world. This included consistently evaluating and upgrading company's technology, interpretation, training, and recruiting.
Pangman's career also included assignments as director of exploration for Amoco U.K. and manager of Exploration New Ventures for Oxy. His service to the SEG includes terms as Director of Geophysics and the SEAM project, and Director of the SEG Foundation.
