Laurie E. Reed received the 1981 Best Paper in Geophysics Award for his paper The airborne electromagnetic discovery of the Detour zinc-copper-silver deposit Northwestern Quebec.[1]

Laurie E. Reed received his B.A.Sc. in engineering physics in 1964 from the University of Waterloo in Ontario. He was employed from 1964 to 1971 as an exploration geophysicist (later senior geophysicist) with Barringer Research Ltd. From 1971 to the present he has been chief geophysicist with Selco Mining Corp. Ltd. (now Selco Inc.) of Toronto. He has worked on many mining exploration projects in Canada, the U.S., Australia, Fiji, Great Britain and Ireland.

He is a member of SEG, EAEG, AGU, CGU, GAC, CIMM, and is a registered professional engineer in the provinces of Ontario and Manitoba. He is a member and Past-President of KEGS, the Canadian Exploration Geophysical Society.
