Galvos are "motors". We pass current through them in a magnetic field and since the wire carrying the current is shaped in a loop, one side wants to go one way and the other side the other way; so the loop revolves. We glue a mirror on the loop, shine a light on the mirror and when the loop turns the reflected light makes wiggles on a record.
