{{#category_index:W|window}} 1. A portion of a seismic record free from certain disturbances; that is, where noise trains are absent. 2. The portion of a data set chosen for consideration, such as for designing operators to be used for autocorrelation or frequency analysis. Also called gate. See also window carpentry. The equivalent width of a window is the width of a boxcar with the same peak amplitude which contains the same energy. 3. To select for analysis data within specified bounds. 4. A portion of a computer screen in which some particular data are displayed. Used when several data sets are to be displayed simultaneously. Windows can be moved about or other windows laid on top of them.
