The arrival of energy that travels in the water directly from the source to a waterbreak detector. Used to determine the location of waterbreak detectors in a seismic streamer with respect to the source location. Filters in the waterbreak circuitry pass components between approximately 500 and 5000 Hz, thus avoiding possible confusion with shallow refractions of lower frequency and with background sonic energy of higher frequency; see Figure C-2e. The velocity of seismic (acoustic) waves in water is shown in Figure W-1.
