{{#category_index:V|viscous magnetization (VRM)}} Remanent magnetization produced by a weak magnetic field over a long period of time. It is generally proportional to the logarithm of the time and parallel to the weak applied field. Viscous magnetization has its origin in thermal energy which is large enough to realign the magnetization direction of domains with rather high energy barriers. The weak field of the Earth acts to bias the direction of these jumps.
