The point on the celestial sphere occupied by the sun at the time of the vernal equinox (about March 21), which is the reference point from which right ascension and celestial longitude are calculated. Also called the first point of Aries and symbolized by File:Upsiloncust.png (upsilon). One of the two points of intersection of the ecliptic and the celestial equator.
