A subdivision within a sequence: lowstand, transgressive, highstand system tracts (see individual entries and Figure S-32; see also shelf-margin tract). System tracts result from a linkage of contemporaneous depositional systems. Each is associated with a specific segment of a eustatic curve and is characterized by geometry and facies associations. They result from the interaction of eustasy, sediment supply, and isostatic subsidence. Often spelled systems tract.
