{{#category_index:S|scalar magnetotelluric method}} A method in which one electric component and one orthogonal magnetic component are used to define the apparent resistivity sounding curve. Applicable only to isotropic horizontal layering, such as in some basin environments. In areas of more complex geology, the tensor magnetotelluric method (q.v.) is used.
