{{#category_index:R|reverse polarity}} Having polarity opposite to ‘‘normal.’’ Seismic sections are sometimes plotted with both normal and reverse polarity, amplitude values in the former being multiplied by –1 to achieve the latter. An attempt is usually made to have positive reflectivity show as a central peak that is shaded black on a normal polarity plot but achieving absolute phase significance is often ellusive. See polarity standard.
