1. The change in direction of a seismic ray upon passing into a medium with a different velocity. See Snell’s law. 2. Involving head waves (q.v.), i.e., involving a travel path in a high-velocity medium parallel to the bedding. The basic equations involving head waves are shown in Figure R-8. See also Figure H-3.
