Dictionary:Recursive filter

A filter for which the output depends on previous outputs as well as the input and the filter response. Part of the output is delayed and added to the next input. Some types of filtering that require a long operator can be accomplished with a short operator in this way. Also called feedback filter. See Sheriff and Geldart (1995, 293, 556) and Shanks (1967).
