{{#category_index:R|radio Earth}} A model of the Earth whose radius is 4/3 that of the Earth. The index of refraction for radio waves in the atmosphere decreases with altitude in a nearly linear manner, resulting in bending of radio waves toward the earth. By assuming that the Earth’s radius is 4/3 its actual radius, this refraction is roughly compensated and radio raypaths can be drawn as straight lines.
