1. A graph of a measured quantity against horizontal distance, as in a ‘‘gravity profile.’’ 2. A drawing showing a vertical section of the ground along a line. 3. The series of measurements made from a single source-point location into a recording spread. 4. A refraction profile denotes the ensemble of individual profiles (as defined above) obtained from the same source point. Use of ‘‘profile’’ for both the component records and for the ensemble sometimes produces confusion.
