{{#category_index:N|Newton-Raphson technique}} An iterative method of finding a numerical solution of an equation, f(z)=0. A first value of zi is tried, and then the next trial value is zi+1=zif(zi)/f′(zi), where f′ is the first derivative with respect to z. Where the process converges, trials are repeated until successive values come sufficiently close together.
