{{#category_index:M|magnetic potential}}
The product of the current and the solid angle subtended by a coil divided by 4π (a sphere subtends the angle 4π). If there are several coils, their individual magnetic potentials (which are scalars) are added. The magnetizing force **H** is the negative gradient of the magnetic potential, a scalar representing the work done against the magnetic field to bring a unit magnetic pole to the point. A **magnetic vector potential** is a vector field whose curl gives the magnetic induction.
