{{#category_index:K|Knott’s equations}}
(notz) Equations governing the partition of energy between reflected and refracted plane P- and S-waves at a plane interface, as a function of the velocities, elastic constants, and densities in the two media and of the incident angle. See Sheriff and Geldart (1995, 287–288) and Zoeppritz’s equations, with which they are equivalent. Named for Cargill Gilston Knott (1856–1922), Scottish seismologist.
