First law: Every planet follows an elliptical path with the Sun at one focus. Second law: A line from the center of the Sun to the center of a planet sweeps the same area in the same time; hence the planet travels fastest when closest to the Sun. Third law: The square of the period of revolution of a planet is proportional to the cube of its mean distance from the Sun.
