{{#category_index:I|interactive processing}} A process in which a human is involved. At an interactive workstation a human inputs instructions and the computer responds with a display of the results of executing the instructions. ‘‘Interactive’’ implies that the computer is on-line and that the human waits to get the response, so that he can modify the instructions if the response is not satisfactory. The computer and human are in a dialog mode. Implies that the interactive system’s response is sufficiently rapid (within a few seconds) that the interpreter does not lose his train of thought.
