{{#category_index:I|illumination}} 1. The intensity of light striking a surface. 2. Seismic wave energy falling on a reflector and thus available to be reflected. It depends on source-receiver configuration and velocity distribution, especially irregular velocity contrasts that bend raypaths differently than adjacent raypaths. Important aspect in areas of complicated velocity variations such as around high-velocity contrasts or subsalt.
