{{#category_index:H|half-width method}}

A method of estimating the depth to a gravity or magnetic source from anomaly shape. Depending on the model, the half-width is (a) half the width of an anomaly at half the maximum (or minimum) value, or (b) half the width between points where the anomaly is one-quarter and three-quarters amplitude. The depth to the center of a horizontal cylinder is given by (a), to the center of a spherical mass by 1.3 (a), to the center of a spherical magnetic sphere by 2.0 (a), to the mass center of a thin semi-infinite slab (fault anomaly) by (b). See also depth rule and Figure H-1.
